First showcase: two Stormcasts in progress

Two Stormcast Eternals photographed mid-process, with notes on where the edge highlights went wrong and what I'll do differently next time.

Stormcast Eternal with half-finished gold armour on a paint handle

The gold is built up in three layers, and it still looks flat. The problem isn’t the colour, but that the edge highlight runs all the way around the edge instead of only where the light would actually hit.

steps

Gold armour in three layers

Retributor ArmourMetal

Applied thickly in three layers, until the primer is fully covered.

Sinks into the recesses and gives the plates depth.

Retributor ArmourEdge highlight

This is where it goes wrong: the edge highlight runs all the way around the edge instead of only where the light would hit.

The cloak went better. Here’s the recipe for the blue, where the edge highlight is a very thin line instead of following the whole edge.

steps

Blue cloak and cloth

Altdorf Guard BlueLayer
Calgar BlueLayer

Two light layers, the last one only on the top surfaces of the folds.

Glacier BlueEdge highlight

A very thin line as edge highlight, unlike the gold's mistake above.
